We're Going Down on Promo for NBC's La Brea!!!

I wrote We’re Going Down in January of 2020 with just a piano and my voice. I remember thinking “I could hear some epic production with this!!” and sang it in such a way that built tension throughout the song. I had never done a song like that before and it felt scary, yet exciting! It had a Trailer feel to it and I had never experimented with that, but I just let my creativity take me there!

Around the same time Josh Frerichs, a super cool producer in Nashville reached out to me on Instagram about  collaborating on a song. I showed him the idea and we ran with it!

I made the most simple demo with just voice and piano and he took it to 1000%. I knew it was special from the moment I heard even just a piece of it in process!

We got it done, released and I started the grueling work of sending it to licensing companies to rep. All of them loved it and accepted it! Phew! 😅

In June of 2021 I went to Durango Film and TV a conference where you get to pitch your music to music supervisors and We’re Going Down was in my reel.

Durango is an invite only event. I got invited to go this year and had to fund raise to get there. It felt really serious because I felt like there was a lot on the line and I wanted to make the most of my time there. It wasn’t just about me it was about the people that paid to get me in the room with the music supervisors. As I played my real of maybe eight songs we’re going down stuck out to a lot of the trailer promo folks.

I did my due diligence and followed up with the music supervisors After the conference with an email and a playlist of my songs.

One of the music supervisors got back to me and said he’d put my music in his disco folder 📁 for later use! (Score!) 3 months went by and I get an email from that same music supervisor asking who repped We’re Going Down and if I had stems. I put him in touch with my rep and got him the stems for the song in 2 hours! 🙌

I didn’t know if I landed it for sure until a few days ago and even that confirmation isn’t solid until it actually happens! I knew it would play during Sunday Night football on NBC, So I watched alllll the commercials and had a heart palpitation every time a new commercial popped up! I didn’t know so many commercials existed until I paid attention 😅 hahah! I was starting to give up hope when I saw and heard it!!!! 🙌

I posted a snippet of it on my Instagram and tagged the music supervisor and he told me there was a better clip on NBC’s Instagram! 🙌 The song goes perfectly with the Promo for the new NBC Show La Brea! Like word for word fits with exactly what is happening in the show. I’m honestly so grateful and relieved it made it in the promo!

All those months of this epic amazing song sitting on the shelf... It’s easy to give up hoping for something to happen, and it finally got it’s perfect placement! I can’t tell you how thrilled I was!!

Music licensing is not a easy, guaranteed road. It takes gumption and perseverance!

I’ve had so many moments where I’ve  question myself as an artist. I’ve let my inner critic (the monster) stop me in so many different ways but I’m glad that I didn’t quit. So many times we let the monster be the loudest voice in our head. But we have to push past it and lean into the discomfort in the unknown and amazing things will happen!

Here is the official trailer for La Brea on NBC with my song we’re going down featured in the background!
